news from the studio

A client once said to me that she always had a slight hesitation about accepting invites to social events like race days, because of the pressure to find a new outfit – and the associated costs.

Planning your race outfit need not be difficult…

Consider the following ideas:

Colour blocking - jacket, skirt and shirt outfits are an excellent choice, you might have a simple skirt or pants in your wardrobe and only need to purchase a new shirt or jacket to team with it.

Using accessories - the classic little black dress or a plain coloured dress can look like new with different coloured accessories, particularly if the accessories are this season's colour.

Blending patterns - mixing up your patterns is right on trend at the moment - check out what's in the wardrobe and give those favourite pieces another run.

Try wearing a new item to layer a dress  - if you have a dress with an interesting hemline or pattern, or a tried and tested classic that has seen a few race days already, layer it up with a shirt or cardi for a new look.

And the headpiece ties it all together!!! Ideas for making the most of your headpieces coming soon.

Alice race season success

What a busy race season it has been for Empire Style!

The Alice Springs race season has come to an end and I was so impressed with the fashions seen at each race event.

The season was kicked off with Girls Day Out at the Alice Springs Turf Club. The day was an opportunity for ladies to plan their outfits for the coming race season, with fashion parades galore.  Empire Style was there, with pieces on show in the parades, and offering expert milliner advice for those planning for the upcoming carinval.

The following weekend was Ladies Day – Ladies Day has to be my favourite day on Alice Springs’ racing calendar. I never fail to have a great day with friends, and this year was especially exciting with all of the Empire Style pieces on ladies heads everywhere! The highlight of the day (did someone say there were horses racing?) was undoubtedly the amazing fashion show coordinated by stylist Peter Tiller of Headlines fame. I like to think that Empire Style’s pieces stole the show – but I may be a little biased! Thank you to Peter and the models for the opportunity to dress the heads…

Saturday 5 May was Young Guns, a race day that has fast become a popular tradition for the 18 to 30-somethings. I enjoyed the day as a guest of Colemans Printing.  There were lots of girls sporting their Empire Style headpieces - Young Guns girls are catered for too at ES!

The May day public holiday was enjoyed at the headline event of the season, Alice Springs Cup. This was a fabulous day in the stunning marquee at the Turf Club.  Empire Style clients were winners both on and off the field with some success in Fashions on the Field:

Best Contemporary Racewear - First Place

Best Classic Racewear - First Runner Up
Best Classic Racewear - Second Runner Up

Best Hat or Fascinator - First Runner Up
Best Hat or Fascinator - Second Runner Up

I've already started planning for next year, have you?
